Daniel Gwirtzman
Daniel Gwirtzman is an established producer, director, choreographer, teacher, and critically acclaimed performer. Celebrating fifteen years as a New York City choreographer, Daniel has earned praise for the creation of a diverse repertory known for its humor, inventiveness and accessibility, “A flair for the entertaining,” says critic Elizabeth Zimmer. “Mr. Gwirtzman does know that in dance less can be more. And that’s a good thing for any choreographer to know” says The New York Times. His dance musical Encore, presented at the New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF) last year, has toured to strong acclaim. “Daniel is clearly a fan of Broadway,” wrote Deborah Jowitt, “it’s great to see imaginative dancing like this.” The twelve year-old Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company was “founded upon a philosophy that dance should celebrate human achievement through a combination of discipline and unbound optimism” (The NY Sun). The DanceBreak Foundation, which showcases the next generation of great Broadway choreographers, has selected Daniel as one of the six choreographers for 2010. This spring there are plenty of opportunities to meet Daniel as a teacher, choreographer and dancer. Here’s some of what’s lined up for June and July:
ENCORE, a signature dance of Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company choreographed by DG, is featured in this year’s La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts Graduation Concert. Daniel has been a guest choreographer at the Fame school this year. Don’t miss this chance to see 20 seniors—the next generation of amazing dancers—tackle this innovative, dynamic dance, last seen as part of the New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF)! Show times: June 4 at 7:30pm and June 5 at 2pm, 7:30pm.

Daniel Gwirtzman performs dances from ENCORE in the culminating event for National Dance Week-NYC, June 12 at 3pm at the Ailey Citigroup Theater.
Reach New Heights IN THE HEIGHTS! This summer study dance in the Heights at the Washington Heights Summer Musical Theater Dance Festival, directed by Daniel and his vibrant, electric company! This is the festival that’s just the size for you. The Festival is a two-week intensive dance-training program for pre-professionals and professionals as well as young dancers ages 13 and up. JULY 19-AUGUST 1.

In celebration of his fifteen years as a NYC choreographer, Daniel is teaching ongoing classes at the YM & YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood Mondays and Wednesdays, 12-1:45pm for only $10/class.
