“Dika, dika, dika, dika, doopa, doo, ooo,” the class sang along to the tap steps to feel the connection between rhythm and movement. The style of tap was very old school Broadway and in-between each exercise the animated instructor would quiz us on the music, (Peggy Lee, Hoagy Carmichael, and Bette Midler). The steps were simple, (i.e., flaps, shuffles, step ball change, toe heel, and shim sham) but were arranged in a cute manner to compliment the fun old-fashioned music. The steps required one to be on his or her toes so the calves, thighs, and butt were the primary worked muscles. Don’t come to this class if you’re expecting an hour of power, I didn’t even break a sweat. This class offers a nice introductory to tap and it’s place in old New York, but not a high intensity work out.

Accommodating staff, nice studio, good location, class on Sunday at 5:45 was easy on the schedule, plenty of free rental shoes, would love to go again but the program is closed til September. The very basic instruction requires concentration more than energy. I would recommend it for everybody.
