<!--StartFragment-->
This advanced level contemporary jazz class pushes the dancer both physically and mentally. The class encourages dancers to explore their bodies, breathing, and intention all while strengthening their core, flexibility, and technique. The class was attended by people at different levels but was geared towards dancers with classical, technical training. The warm-up, led by Chris Hale, was based on gyrokinesis principles and really focused on exercising and articulating specific movements and body alignment. These techniques were then transferred through Calen H. Jurka’s choreography combination that emphasized control, musicality, and finding dynamics in the details. The class’s demand for concentration and openness continued to challenge even the most advanced dancers. Both Calen and Jurka provide a positive atmosphere that engages dancers and pushes them to connect emotionally while still gaining an intense physical workout.
